lyndabird observed: "May 19, 11:53 am Dad is in with a small fish. He landed by the dining area and dropped the fish. The eaglet moved over closer to Dad but is just preening his tummy as no food is forthcoming. Dad's doing his statue impersonation again, just looking out toward the meadow." trek observed: "May 19, 1:17 pm Mom is finally in...she has somthing in her talon but cannot tell as picture is quite blurry. She drops it and finds the fish dad left and immediately begins feeding the babe. The wind is incredible right now. The nest is rockin'... " trek further observed: "May 19, 1:21 pm Just a quick observation re this feeding..the babe is very hungry..he is snatching bites at record speed. He is also doing a whistling Lil type cry as he eats. This feeding session has gone quick." Reviewing the posts a month later, it seems that they are beginning to encourage the eaglet to start feeding himself, but he's not quite ready to do that yet, even though he was described as very hungy and the food had been available for over an hour. |

Then she sat on the mounds and I realised she had raised herself to enable Let to get under better!! Pretty nifty I thought - hope someone has captured that." |

trek observed: "May 20, 10:58 am The babe was up, found a little scrap on the side of the nest and nibbled at it..then he found another scrap, bigger this time and lifted it up and looked like he was going to try and pull it apart with his talons but he is so unsteady on his feet still. Very wobbly. He definitely needs to practice this skill. He flops back down and it appears he is going to wait for a parent to feed him." trek observed: "May 20, 8:05 pm Mom is back..she picks up a fish off of the side of the nest and as she was walking towards the babe the babe snatched it from her. She stole it back and he snatched it from her again..this went back and forth at least 8 times. Mom was as stubborn as the babe was in trying to secure the fish. Mom is trying to rip up small pieces but the babes is snatching anything she tears off...big or small..The fish is done in less than 2 minutes. Now she pulls a gull wing from where the fish was and is pulling bits of that as well. There seems to be stringy bits off it so it could be fresh. She is eating those bits herself. Not long after she begins fluffing the nest.." |

Dad's calling out but there are no responses heard. |

You could really see the feathers starting to come in on the edge of his wing. He's really feathering out -- you can see them on the end of his tail as well as the edges of his wings. Little dark feathers are poking up all over the rest of him as well. He's grown so much in the last week. When Fuzzlet stands next to Dad you can really see how big he's gotten!" |

lyndabird observed: "May 23, 5:08 pm PDT I just noticed the sounds of food being crunched and the eaglet is trying to pull at food in the dining area.
He's picked up some pieces and tried to swallow them. No parents are in the nest. I did not see him actually swallow anything but possibly someone will have a video on SS&V later to confirm if he actually ate anything." |

trek observed: "May 24, 11:44 am Parent is in with a wriggly fish. The babe snatched it right out of the parents mouth and wabbled over a bit. Now he has no clue what to do with it so he drops it and sits at the parents side. I believe this may be dad due to his reluctancy to feed the babe and size. Can hear another eagle calling in the distance. 11:48 am The babe really wants this fish. He picks it up and drops it several times..dad leans over to check on the situation and continues to watch up above his head..the babe patiently waits to be fed... 11:50 am This is great...on the W cam it appears the babe was able to get a hold of the fish with his talons without falling over the edge...and grab a couple of bites...he does this as dad watches over him and now dad finally takes pity on the babe and feed him...hopefully this was caught on screenshots.." |

Boy, I wish he wouldn't get that close to the edge of the nest, he's just not steady enough." trek observed: "May 25, 2:53 pm The babe has found an old gull wing at the very edge of the nest by the tree trunk. He is tugging at it..trying to dislodge it from the sticks. He gave a couple of big tugs on it and nibbled something. Now he gives his wings a good stretch and is standing really tall and steady. He has let out his wings a few times now but no hops. And on that note a parent just landed on the lookout branch...finally..lol...the babe walks across the nest with his wings extended all of the way..looking more like a chimpanzee walk than an eaglet" |
