LakeMama's photos - February 9, 2008 JudyB: "Watching a nice feeding - Tes and Oro are lined up side by side and seem to be taking turns quite politely. I've been reading back over the thread and was wondering if the bit of bullying that was observed a week or so ago was going to be a regular thing - and it looks to me as if it isn't. " |

Lori: "Oh no... That tree did indeed lose that big limb. This is Laurad's picture from 12-2-07 and next to it is LakeMaMa's picture from today [2-9-08]. That tree is really starting to scare me and I'm sure the people at Audubon are quite concerned too. " |

JudyB's photos - February 13, 2008 "The first picture is Tes or B2 showing how big she's getting - not to mention showing off her little tail feathers! I think the second is Oro or L2 showing that he can do nestorations! I'm guessing it's more of the spanish moss he's playing with here, and didn't see any major food groups involved, though I might have missed something." |

Update from Audubon of Florida - Friends of the Eagles 2/14/08: "If you look carefully, you can now see true feathers forming on the wings and tails of the eaglets. The older one has lost most of his fluffy natal down, and the younger one is rapidly catching up in size. They are beginning to peck at food in the nest, but the adults are still feeding them several times a day. This is the only time in their lives when they grow all their feathers at one time, and they are expending a tremendous amount of energy in feather, tissue and muscle growth. When the eaglets are approximately six weeks old we are going to remove them briefly from their nest, take blood samples and perform a physical exam to ensure they are healthy. We will also be able to determine their sex. Both of the birds will have a USFWS band attached to a leg, and one of them will be fitted with a satellite transmitter. When the eaglets fledge at 10-12 weeks of age, we will be able to track the fledgling as he leaves Florida and migrates north for the summer, then home in the fall. This will provide valuable data as we continue to learn about the migratory patterns of Florida's bald eagles. The viewing public will be able to follow the fledgling's journey online as we receive transmittals from the device." |
