We think the egg finally disappeared the morning of June 19. |
We observed that the parents spent a lot of time with the eaglet on the 19th, but on the 20th, while they made a couple of brief visits, they didn't appear to bring food until late afternoon. When food arrived, the eaglet did mantle and appeared to be feeding itself. We are speculating that this may have been done to encourage the eaglet to be more assertive about grabbing the food from the parent and feeding herself - behavior that's been observed at Santa Cruz (2 weeks older) and Sidney (one week older). The parents were around frequently on the 21st, and provided many food drops that day, so the day of fasting is unlikely to do the eaglet any harm. |

I think this shows the eaglet flapping off to her branching location |

link to a great series of photos of Mom showing the eaglet how to get to the branch from the day before |

Sherri's photo - July 18 "Checking in on Joy, she was on the center branch.....and then disappeared.....don't know where she went" |
Sherri's photo - July 19 a lot of branching and up-and-down going on (twelve weeks old) |
Shoebutton's photo - July 20 looks like an eaglet flying in to see what the parent has brought - closest thing to proof of fledging I've seen so far! (parent had been eating in the nest about 4 minutes before eaglet arrived) |
Sherri's photo - July 22 no sign of the eaglet in the nest at night July 21 or 22, and she didn't return to the nest until after 3 pm on the 22nd, even though there was a morning food delivery - more evidence that she has definitely fledged and is exploring the neighborhood |

The cam went offline July 31; it came back in mid-August, but no sightings of the eaglet were reported. |
