Nest Update from Blackwater
03/24/07:
"The oldest eaglet is now almost a foot tall.
Also we can see that the eaglets' feet are disproportionately large.
The feet and beak will reach adult size before the rest of the body does."

Nest Update from Blackwater
04/25/07: "The chicks are 8 weeks old and
are now sometimes perching near the nest edge.
Fledging normally occurs at about 10-12 weeks.
We've also seen signs that one chick may have hovered while flapping."

Nest Update from Blackwater
05/03/07: "We lost one eaglet for over 30 minutes on
Thursday morning [May 3], then the eaglet reappeared.
It's possible this eaglet has begun some occasional branching."

Nest Update from Blackwater
05/14/07:
"We had one eaglet go missing for over an hour on Monday.
We're not sure if it was branching or flying,
so we'll keep an eye on the chicks.
But this was a long foray out of the nest."

Nest Update from Blackwater
05/18/07: "One eaglet might be flying.
It was seen infrequently on Thursday afternoon,
then appeared to roost outside the nest.
It showed up again on Friday morning.
We'll try to confirm the fledging this weekend from the refuge."
05/19/07:
"Special Note - An eyewitness report from the refuge:
It does not look like either eaglet has fledged,
but they have been making short flights to branches
at the left and top of the cam image."

Nest Update from Blackwater
06/10/07: "We're seeing less of the eaglets,
which means they're becoming more independent." |
Nest Update from Blackwater
06/12/07: "Since the eaglets are becoming so independent, we're going to
wrap up the Eagle Cam Web Log for this season. Just a reminder that we'll
likely turn off the Eagle Cam around the end of June. The Eagle Cam doesn't
really see any action once the eagles leave. We might see a lone squirrel or
a blue jay, but that's about it. So to save a little money on our end, we'll
turn off the Eagle Cam until late November or early December,
when we'll go live again for the 2007-2008 nesting season."

still enjoys being beak fed by a parent."

Nest Update from Blackwater
06/18/07: "More photos from this morning show both eaglets with fish;
sometimes more than one,
which means the eaglets are likely
finding their own food part of the time.
|
Nest Update from Blackwater
06/24/07:
"Sometime in the next week,
we'll be shutting down the cam for the season.
We'll return in November or December."

" Due to our cam malfunction and the newly independent eaglets,
we've decided to end the season."
