2008 Eaglet Information Table

the symbol ~ is used to mean about or approximately
times are local time at the nest

If the cam doesn't look into the nest bowl, the hatch date for the first eaglet is based on the behavior of the parents and that of subsequent eaglets is based partly on an assumption of 2-3 days between hatchings and partly on the number of days between sighting of the first chick and sighting of subsequent chicks; nests may only be checked once a week after fledging, so the fledgling may have been around for several days after it was last seen on cam by us.

NOTES

CA - Pelican Harbor: A juvenile eagle attacked the nest May 19, when the eaglets were 46 and 48 days old (a little less than 7 weeks). It dragged the younger one from the nest, puncturing its beak, and knocked the older off, fracturing a bone in its wing. An IWS team was on the island and reached the site within an hour and rescued the chicks from the ground under the nest tree and removed them for rehabilitation. The younger one (A-64 "Spirit") returned to Santa Cruz June 8 (age 9-1/2 weeks), and was placed in a hack tower with an eaglet rescued from northern California when its nest fell out of a tree (A-66 "Survivor"). The door to the hacking tower was opened the night of June 29, and Survivor fledged at first light on Monday, June 30th. Spirit spent Monday practicing flapping in the tower, then moved outside to perch on the "porch" for the evening. He fledged Tuesday afternoon, July 1st. Survivor A-66 died shortly after fledging; the cause of death was not able to be determined.
